In 2013 I read a total of 16,725 pages. I wrote around 30 poems, and 100 essays. I memorized 3 poems, and received 1 poetry book. I started 10 short stories, and finished 5 vignettes. I drafted 15 blogposts and scribbled 4 novel ideas. I took 11,111 photographs with my Nikon D3100 and developed none of them. I changed my room 8 times and rearranged my bookshelves 4. I fell in love with 3 pens, sent 1554 emails, watched 1117 YouTube video, favorited 235 of them, had 12,934 conversations on GChat, and made 61 calls on Voice.
I made 1 very valuable friend. I joined 3 fandoms. I drunk more tea than I should have. I taught 15 kindergarteners and started teaching 8 fifth graders. I reached 10,000 post mark on my tumblr and 3,000 views on this blog.
Now we move on to a new year filled with another set of numbers, statistics and symbols.
But, how do we transform our perceptions of the world? How do we break free of the patterns ingrained in our brains? How do contemporary writers change literature? How do governments represent their people? How do we deal with bad leaders and worse representatives? How do we control our greed? How can we suppress society's expectations? How do we speak up against injustice?
What is existential living? Do we realize all the miracles we live with? Is the air we breathe going to be breathable 40 years from now? Will we be able to save Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Niger, Cambodia, Hungary, Bosnia, Haiti, Ethiopia, Samoa, the Philippines...?
So many questions to answer, so little time. I hope in the upcoming year, we all can embark on adventurous journeys and explore the world. And remember, the force the guides the stars guides you too [*].
